What is an Emergency Responder QR?

An Emergency Responder QR is a durable plaque fitted to your premises that carries a QR code linking to your Premises Information Document (PID). When the fire service is called to your building, the attending crew scans the plaque with a phone camera and instantly sees the critical information they need — before they force entry.

In the UK, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires the responsible person to provide the fire and rescue service with relevant safety information. Traditionally this has been delivered through a Premises Information Box — a physical lockbox firefighters open on arrival. The Emergency Responder QR digitises that: the same life-saving information, available to any responding crew, kept permanently current, and impossible to leave empty.

Each plaque is unique to your building. The QR resolves to a secure FireIntel page showing your hazards and risks, site access and What3Words location, nearest water supplies, utility isolation points, maximum occupancy, evacuation policy and on-call contacts — the full Premises Information Document, built for an incident ground.

What a 999 responder sees

Every scan opens your Premises Information Document — the details a crew needs in the first minutes of an incident.

Hazards & risks

Asbestos, stored cylinders, chemical stores and anything a crew must know before entry.

Site access & location

What3Words, easting/northing, lockbox codes and the right door — not the postcode.

Nearest water supplies

Hydrants, open water and tanks so crews lay in fast.

Utilities & isolation

Gas, electric and sprinkler isolation points, clearly mapped.

Occupancy & evacuation

Max occupancy, sleeping risk, evacuation policy and PEEPs.

Contacts & responsible persons

On-call keyholders and the duty responsible person — reachable now.

How it works

Three steps between an arriving crew and the information that protects your building.

Step 1

Scan the plaque

A 999 responder scans the QR plaque in your window — no app, no login, just a camera.

Step 2

Premises info appears

Hazards, access, water supplies, evacuation policy and contacts — the right detail, instantly.

Step 3

You get a scan-alert

The moment a responder accesses your PID, we email you — so you know the call is live.

Emergency Responder QR — your questions

Everything a responsible person asks before fitting one.

What is an Emergency Responder QR plaque?

It's a weatherproof QR plaque fitted to your premises that gives attending 999 firefighters instant access to your Premises Information Document (PID) — hazards, access, water supplies, occupancy and contacts — by scanning with a phone camera. No app or login is required.

Is a Premises Information Document (PID) a legal requirement?

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 places a duty on the responsible person to provide relevant information to the fire and rescue service. A PID (also called a Premises Information Box or SSRI) is the recognised way to discharge that duty, and an Emergency Responder QR makes it available the moment a crew arrives — not after a lockbox is found.

How is this different from a Premises Information Box?

A traditional Premises Information Box is a physical lockbox that firefighters open with a master key or code. An Emergency Responder QR delivers the same critical information instantly to any responding crew's phone, is always current, and can't be lost or left empty. Many premises run both.

What does a 999 responder see when they scan?

Hazards and risks, site access and What3Words location, nearest water supplies, utility isolation points, maximum occupancy, evacuation policy, and on-call contacts — everything in your Premises Information Document, presented in a format built for an incident ground.

Do I need a Fire Risk Assessment to get one?

No. If you already have a current FRA we build your PID from it. If yours is missing or out of date, we can carry out a PAS 79:2020 assessment and your plaque is included — but the plaque and 12 months of scan-alerts are available on their own.

What are scan-alerts?

The moment a 999 responder accesses your premises information, FireIntel emails you — so you know the emergency services are at your building and can contact your keyholder or responsible person immediately. The first 12 months are included.

How do I keep the information up to date?

Log in to your FireIntel client portal and update your premises information any time. The plaque never needs reprinting — the QR always points to your current PID.
